The Chiefs Are Getting Desperate

Bruce is actually a very dangerous passer from the fetal position.
If you haven’t been following the triage unit that is the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback roster, it’s really quite fascinating.

They started off their first three games with three different quarterbacks, then rotated back through them a second time after their bye. Brodie Croyle started the season but got hurt in the first game. Damon Huard came in for that game and started Game 2, where he got hurt and was replaced by Tyler Thigpen. At some point during that game, Marques Hagans, a wide receiver, also came in to play quarterback for a few plays. Thigpen started, and lost, Game 3. Huard came back for Game 4, played the whole game and actually won. He started Game 5 but was replaced by Thigpen in the fourth quarter because of the team’s ineffectiveness against Carolina. Then sweet and merciful Jesus granted them a bye week and the coaches took two weeks to prepare Croyle to come back and start. He did — and played over a full quarter before suffering a season-ending knee injury and being replaced, again, by Huard, who injured his thumb in the fourth quarter and was replaced, again, by Thigpen. All in one game! And somehow Mike Nolan of the 49ers was the coach that was fired yesterday. Four quarterbacks in six games. Amazing.

Anyway, the whole reason I brought this up is because the Chiefs are now basically searching Craigslist for quarterbacks. And who did they come up with?

In the meantime, the Chiefs were preparing to bring former Tampa Bay quarterback Bruce Gradkowski to Kansas City today for a workout. Gradkowski played for St. Louis in a preseason game against the Chiefs in August at Arrowhead Stadium.

If Bruce doesn’t get this job, he might as well forget about football and try to put that Business Marketing degree from Toledo to use, which means he’ll probably sell coupon books out of the back of his car. Hey, some of those coupons are pretty sweet. Come on, free shoe rental at Bowl-A-Rama? Who could turn that down?

Did Simms ever get signed back by the Titans? I would ask Culpepper to back out of retirement.
