K2 Excused For Moving

Kellen Winslow spoke with Stephen Holder of the Times and explained that the reason he was absent for OTAs last week was because he’s still in the process of moving to Tampa.

Winslow said his still-incomplete move to the Tampa area has been the main reason for his absence last week and this week. He vowed to be in attendance beginning May 26, when the Bucs begin a third week of workouts at One Buc Place.

The article also says that he and Warren Sapp talked about the comments Sapp made about Winslow not being at the OTAs and that Sapp apologized. So, I guess everything’s cool. He’ll be there next week, so I’m not going to ride his ass anymore about it.

The article itself is a little weird, though. You read it, and you get the impression that Winslow is this humble dude who is concerned about his public image and working hard to keep his body in shape. But the story only contains a couple brief quotes from Winslow himself. The rest are paraphrases and extrapolations by Holder. Holder is one of the best Bucs beat reporters around these days, so I’d like to assume that the impression I’m getting is really what’s going on in Winslow’s head and not just Holder’s wishful thinking and optimism. Like this:

But Winslow is quietly hoping a fresh start in Tampa will help him change attitudes.

What did he say that would give Holder that impression? That seems important. But whatever, let’s see what happens next week at the OTAs.
