Rear Entries: Digging Deep

HERE IT COMES: I wondered how long it would be after the announcement that the Bucs were going to accelerate Josh Freeman’s learning curve until some local reporter said that Freeman was in the lead. Turns out, less than a week.
In some ways, this could be Freeman’s job to lose.
Kind of early in the dead month to pull out this kind of sensationalistic shit, isn’t it? The possibility is certainly there for Freeman to start the season, but to say it’s his job to lose is silly. It all depends on if Raheem Morris is playing for now or for the future. And judging by the fact that Luke McCown and Byron Leftwich are getting the starting snaps, I’d say he’s playing for now.
Luke McCown is still an unknown and Byron Leftwich lost his starting job in Jacksonville with a string of erratic performances.
How is McCown an unknown? This is his fifth year with the team! Practices and camps do count for something, you know. He’s certainly more of a “known” than Freeman. And again, all visual evidence indicates that it is actually McCown’s job to lose if we’re going by who is doing the best in the offseason. Stop just writing speculative shit that means nothing on a real paper’s web site. Get a blog, Ira.
KELLEN WINSLOW INTERVIEW: Buccaneers.com posted an interview video with Kellen Winslow as part of their “Behind the Flag” series. It’s not all that informative, but it’s making it harder for me to continue to stoke the flames of hate I have for him. He seems like he doesn’t want to say much and just be humble and play the game. Really? Man, I’m not going to be able to show my face in Knoxville again if I keep this attitude up.
ZEMAITIS STILL IN FOOTBALL?: Ever wonder what happened to Alan Zemaitis after he pissed away being a fourth round pick by never understanding the Cover 2 scheme that he was drafted specifically to play? Me neither. But I did uncover that he’s now playing with the Rochester Raiders, an IFL team. He also apparently spent some time in the CFL with Hamilton, but it didn’t work out there, either. Did you know the IFL has teams named the Abilene Ruff Riders (spelled that way) and the Omaha Beef? Are we sure the “F” in IFL is for “football”?

I am certainly rooting for Kellen. But even TO sounds humble before the first season. I hope Kellen keeps it up.

Its a post where the dude who runs the blog runs down Winslow, and even starts calling him “Sgt. Winslow” but gets confronted by Winslow and totally pusses out and becomes ‘a fan’. Slow news days… anything even remotely amusing gets 15 seconds this time a year.
