Old Man Calls Sapp An Old Man

Sapp, in the upper-right, puts his LEGAL hit on Clifton. Above the waist and everything.
Somebody named Gordie Jones of the Philadelphia Examiner takes issue with Warren Sapp‘s stance on younger players not listening to older ones. Wait, someone from Philadelphia was argumentative for no reason? Wha-whAAA?!?

I mean, seriously – isn’t this the kind of thing codgers have been saying about young whipper-snappers since the dawn of time? Isn’t it painting with way too broad a brush?

What did he expect? That Sapp would personally interview all 2,500 NFL players to make sure he wasn’t overgeneralizing when he gave Peter King his response? The two guys Sapp mentioned by name were defensive tackles on the Raiders when Sapp was there — these are players who should be paying attention. I’m sure there are plenty of players that pay their respects, but Sapp’s broader point is certainly valid. It’s like when I call Philadelphians cockbags. I’m sure there are some that aren’t. They’re probably transplants who don’t like football, but I’m sure they exist.

In a future interview, Sapp will no doubt note he had to run uphill, through the snow, to land that infamous cheap shot on Green Bay lineman Chad Clifton in 2002.

Did he even see the play he’s talking about? It was a blindside block away from the play, but it wasn’t cheap and it wasn’t penalized. Clifton was still in pursuit, so he has to be treated as a potential tackler. If you don’t want to be hit, get on one knee and take yourself out of the play. Why am I still discussing this seven years later? Anyone who’s a fan of a team that has Jon Runyan on it doesn’t get to talk about other players taking cheap shots.
