Lee Roy To Be First In The Ring

According to common sense Pewter Report, Lee Roy Selmon will be the first Buccaneer inducted into the Ring of Honor.
While several players are candidates to be included in Tampa Bay’s Ring of Honor, PewterReport.com has learned through sources that the Bucs plan to make Hall of Fame defensive end Lee Roy Selmon the first player inducted into the Bucs Ring of Honor at the team’s throwback game, which is expected to be the home contest vs. the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 8.
You mean it won’t be Marquise Walker? Maybe it’s just me, but I kind of assumed Selmon would be the inaugural inductee. The only question was who else would go in this season with him. That’s where PR has the real scoop.
Currently, Tampa Bay also plans to induct just one player into the Bucs Ring of Honor each season, which means Selmon may be the only player inducted this year.
So for the first several years, it’s really only going to be the Line of Honor. I guess that makes sense. It’s not like the Bucs have the history or the legendary players of a team like the Packers or the Bears to have several inductees every year. If they were to do three or four per year, they’d run out pretty quick. So you know what this means, right? It sounds like the throwback game is going to be a yearly event that they plan on continuing for a good long time. Hopefully they’ll have an alumni week before the game where they invite old players to come and shake fans hands and update everyone on what they’re doing. Then before the game they’ll induct the newest player into the Ring and celebrate Buccaneer history. And then the game will be played in orange and white. Sweet.

Hmm…one a year. So who’s next year? Paul Gruber? He never went to a Pro Bowl, but he would have gone to six of them if he played for a decent team.
Maybe Doug Williams? His career here was cut short, but his time here was special.
Ricky Bell? Jimmie Giles? James Wilder?
Maybe we skip right on up to the pewter and red years. How about Hardy Nickerson?
I know Warren Sapp, Mike Alstott, John Lynch, Derrick Brooks, and Simeon Rice should all get in eventually, but I am thinking just of the next one, which should be in some kind of chronological order. I’m leaning towards Nickerson.
