Oh What The Fuck Is This All About?!?
September 03, 2009 at 10:29am by Scott
The Times (and everyone else) is reporting that the Bucs just fucking fired Jagz. There’s obviously going to be a press conference about this, so I’ll update this post when I know more about it. Chances are we will get the “we decided to go in a different direction” thing from the team, but you know something really fucking awful had to happen for them to ditch Jagz a week before the regular season.
Remember what I said when he was hired about not trusting this guy?
UPDATE: Press conference at noon. Greg Olson takes over as offensive coordinator.
UPDATE 2: Adam Schefter is pushing the rumor that Jagz wasn’t happy with Byron Leftwich being named the starting quarterback. If that’s the case, then either Jagz is a huge fucking pussy that can’t handle not getting his way or Leftwich so godawfully bad that Jagz didn’t think he could run his offense with Leftwich. I’m really hoping it’s the pussy angle. Funny enough, that’s not the first time I’ve said that sentence.
UPDATE 3: From Jagz:
“I am certainly disappointed but I wish nothing but the best for Raheem Morris and the entire Buccaneer organization. I was given the chance to remain on staff as the quarterbacks coach, but felt that the timing for such a move was not in the best interest for either side. I appreciate the opportunity that was given to me. Again, I wish nothing but the best for this organization.”
All that really does is eliminate anything totally egregious like Jagz sodomizing Joel Glazer’s dog or something. But, you know, it’s nice that that’s eliminated.
UPDATE 4: The final spin everyone is putting on this is that Jagz was in over his head as a playcaller.
Sometime during training camp, it became increasingly apparent to Bucs officials and players, that Jagodzinski was not equipped to install and direct an NFL offense. His expertise centered mostly around the zone blocking scheme, which he helped operate for the Atlanta Falcons.
If this is really is the entire reason, then you have to applaud the Bucs for making a quick decision to keep the offense from spinning out of control. The preseason games certainly weren’t lighting up the scoreboard, but I thought that had more to do with Jagz keeping all his tricks up his sleeve for the regular season. Maybe he really was doing his best.
Greg Olson was the OC for the Rams in 2006 and 2007. In 2006, the Rams scored an average of 23 points per game. In 2007, that number dropped to 16.4. Maybe he’s not directly responsible for that dropoff, but as the coordinator, it’s on him.

PFT is saying it might have to do with him not liking the decision of going with Byron. What the hell. And just when you thought Lard Ass was wrong too. 4-12 just got a little farther out of reach.

You know what’s funny is that the Chiefs just relieved Chan Gailey of his offensive coordinator duties a couple days ago. What’s going on in the world of offensive coordinators?
TheBrainStem (September 03, 2009 at 10:42am) :
Our offense did look a little weak in the preseason. Plus they have a game tomorrow. Another weak decision from the front office. Since when did firing right before the season starts become a fad?
Louie (September 03, 2009 at 10:52am) :
Morris and Josh McDaniels should co-author a “Coaching for Dummies” book. Morris will probably want to install a new offense now.
The reason has to be QB related. However, I don’t think it’s the pussy angle. I think most will agree that Leftwich is godawful. I don’t remember if Morris ever said if the decision was unanimous — I think he said the decision to delay the decision was unanimous.
Scott (September 03, 2009 at 11:02am) :
As offensive coordinator, how are you supposed to handle not getting the quarterback you want? On one hand, Raheem is the boss and what he says goes. You can’t get your panties in a bunch every time you boss does something you disagree with, even if it directly affects you. On the other hand, Morris is a young former defensive backs coach who Jagz may have felt (justifiably) didn’t have the expertise to overrule his decision. It’s obvious now that Leftwich was the chosen one as soon as he signed the contract. If the head coach is going to be so stubborn in his quick decisions, maybe Jagz is better off jumping ship? I really hope this press conference offers more than the standard pablum.

I don’t remember a season where even one OFC was let go this early. Now we have two. Maybe it about principle and discipline? Principle that Luke was promised a true QB competition, which I don’t think ever existed. Discipline, in that OF players did not give the same effort when playing for Luke. If all of that is at Raheem’s doorstep then we have serious problems on player selection, honesty and leadership.
Louie (September 03, 2009 at 11:19am) :
I think this move will assure TV blackouts. You think people are going to rush out and buy tickets now?
Mark S (September 03, 2009 at 11:29am) :
If you live in Tampa, but have the Direct TV “NFL ticket” does anyone know if you get access even when there is a local blackout?
Mark S (September 03, 2009 at 11:30am) :
Depending on how we look against Dallas, Raheem will be hailed or helled. We could end up with Jagz as headcoach in week 2.
Scott (September 03, 2009 at 11:31am) :
Blackouts eliminate any broadcasts of the games in a 75-mile radius, regardless of who the carrier is. It is a true blackout. Sorry.
Mark S (September 03, 2009 at 11:45am) :
We will probably get either the Aints or Falconis then.
Matt Price (September 03, 2009 at 11:54am) :
Scott, Let me suggest that if as you say (and I believe) Morris made the decision to start Leftwich the day he signed him, then all of the ensuing competition was fake, all of the delays were fake, and Morris lied to everyone (including McCown) about his real intentions. If that’s true, then it’s really easy to see how things could have gotten really bad between Jagz and Morris. Especially if it turns out that Morris was treating Olson like the real O-cordinator (which I don’t know, but is entirely possible).
Also, I’m am seeing repeated signs that Morris is big on playing favorites by boosting “his guys” — d-backs, Leftwich, Clayton — and he seems interested in getting rid of anyone who has as much or more authority than he does. IF that’s true, then that’s a destructive environment and Jagz will only be the first to suddenly leave.
I could be wrong, but that’s how I see it right now.

Who is going to watch the press conference live? I am.
TheBrainStem (September 03, 2009 at 12:13pm) :
My bandwith sucks, nothing but lagging. He trips over his own words alot, hes probably nervous I do the same thing.
Mark S (September 03, 2009 at 12:14pm) :
Sounding like Jagz was not communicating with Morris. Maybe the conversation went like this:
Morris: Coach what’s the game plan for Dallas?
Jagz: Don’t worry about it. I have your back. Besides you would not understand it anyways.
Morris: I need to know the game plan.
Jagz: You promised me autonomy on the offense and I am calling you on it. Keep your word or fire me!
Morris: Your’re fired.
TheBrainStem (September 03, 2009 at 12:19pm) :
This sucks, I be listening to “THE other Hoff” alot this year.
forthntwint (September 03, 2009 at 01:30pm) :
it’s not jagz fault leftbich sux….i am dissapointed this year with the way the bucs are going..this isn;t helping tampa sell out there games….wtf
forthntwint (September 03, 2009 at 01:31pm) :
oh yeah none of the starting wr’s where in all preseaon. that could be one reason why the offense struggled and that leftwich sux..
campyone (September 03, 2009 at 01:55pm) :
I can’t find anything good about this. It just adds to the impression many of us have had from the day Morris was hired that nobody at One Buc Place knows what they’re doing. I remember some NFL type saying a while back that when the Bucs fired Gruden and Allen they fired the only two guys around the Bucs who had a clue. I suspected he was right at the time, I’m almost certain he’s right now.
Louie (September 03, 2009 at 02:16pm) :
OK, so Morris fires Jagz because he doesn’t know what he’s doing. The same thing can certainly be said about Morris.
KingBuc34 (September 03, 2009 at 04:23pm) :
I agree with my man Lou, Morris aint nobody.. I feel bad for the team this year. Oh well, 1st round draft pick baby!!!!
LostInSeattle (September 03, 2009 at 05:37pm) :
Damn… This is pretty bad to lose your OC a week before the season begins. I thought the zone blocking scheme would be kinda cool to see, knowing that Denver uses it and has a good running game and wanted to see what it would do here. Now the question is, what sort of offense are we going to have? The old ‘76 sweep right, sweep left, throw long and punt one?
Matt Price (September 03, 2009 at 06:09pm) :
They said he’s not equipped to be an NFL OC, but wasn’t he Green Bay’s OC in 2006?
Flatlander (September 03, 2009 at 09:49pm) :
He was, they finished with an avg of 103 ypg an 8-8 record and Favre attempted 600+ passes, and the offense ranked 23. 1 year then landed the gig with BC. Nothing outstanding for sure, although I do not believe GB’s line was all that great either.
JScott (September 03, 2009 at 10:02pm) :
I think this was a money grab on the Glazers part, they didnt want to pay a guy for a position his assistants were running. The fact that Steve Logan isnt leaving with Jags says alot considering those two are joined at the hip.
At least Raheem has the nads to make difficult decisions despite the public outcry.
I still don’t get the unfair QB competition hysteria. If McCown was capable Leftwich never would have been brought aboard. Raheem knew what he had in Luke, he’s been around the club as long as Luke has. He knows mediocrity when he sees it. As do all of you. You all just cling to his potential to be lightning in a bottle. Getting sacked 3 times in game three showed exactly what type of QB he is and has been (enough with the Saints highlight)..
The offense looked decent to me thus far through the pre-season, had the QB’s connected on more passes you could tell this offense was alot different than Grudens. Hopefully Olsen doesnt bring back the Gruden offense. I think we’ll see that Logan is the real offensive coordinator where as Olsen will be relaying the play calls.
Should be interesting as usual. This franchise makes it tough to be a fan…
forthntwint (September 05, 2009 at 12:24pm) :
jscott..yer an idiot..the only reason he got sacked is because not all the starters were in..how can you say it was a fair competetion when luke starts week 1 when know onw fn plays and leftbich starts week 2 and 3 gets all the starters and luke gets half the backups…yeah that’s fair.
