Raheem Has Favorites?

November 10, 2009 at 12:11pm by Scott   •  7 Comments »

You got a little something there between your teeth -- here, let me get it.
Martin Fennelly penned this article today, which is pretty typical of a lot of articles on Raheem Morris today. If you are ethically opposed to reading a Fennelly article in its entirety (and good for you if you are), I’ll summarize it here: Congratulations to the team, winning is fun, Raheem is still learning, some successful coaches in the past started off slow, don’t get too cocky. There, now you have an extra five minutes to hide out in the bathroom.

But in the middle of all that is one little quote that stood out.

That said, there’s a mountain of work left for the head coach. He’s still all over the road. And there is still a perception that he has his favorites in the locker room, which doesn’t sit well with everyone inside it.

Fans have suspected that Raheem had his favorites in the locker room ever since Ronde Barber survived the great purge of February and Jermaine Phillips was given the starting WLB job before he went on IR. But as far as I can remember, this is the first real acknowledgement of a perception of favoritism from a major news source as well as a confirming that other players aren’t happy about it. It apparently wasn’t flagrant enough for any player to say anything about it when they were 0-7, so you’re definitely not going to hear anything about it first-hand after a win. With another win or two, the whole issue may go away altogether.

Nice of Fennelly to throw that little turd out on the table. I refuse to read Fennelly’s crap, but I’m assuming he provides no other details. It kills him that the Bucs won, so he’s got to try and come up with something negative.

This can actually be considered slander because I have yet to hear anything negative from the players regarding their relationships with Coach Morris. I’m not exactly sure where the article is but I know just recently while Micheal Clayton was being interviewed he said, “We are going to do whatever it takes to keep Coach around.” They like playing for this guy.

Of course Clayton would say that. He’s one of Raheem’s favorites….right?

Who is he playing favorites with though? Off the hip maybe Clifton Smith (Who’s seen Graham?), maybe Clayton (though games like Sunday make it tough to argue pulling him).

If anything Raheem has shown an ability not to play favorites. Can you guys even name the rotation of guys playing on the d-line? How many kickers have we gone through? ha.. i’m looking forward to their off-season moves to be honest.

Major news source. Must have felt like shitting a pineapple to link Fennelly with that phrase. Good thing you didn’t have to use the word ‘legitimate’ or you might have had a stroke.

He works for an actual newspaper, so it’s worth noting. The bar really is low these days, isn’t it?

I’m betting most coaches have favorites, but they probably usually have the good sense not to make it obvious who they are. Not so this time. . . not if we can see it.
