Should The Bucs Change Starting Receivers?

November 12, 2009 at 12:16pm by Scott

By rule, rookies are only allowed to do the airplane touchdown dance.

Pat Yasinskas posed a question in an entry yesterday when he was discussing Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton sitting out of practice.

Why don’t the Bucs just go ahead and make Sammie Stroughter and Maurice Stovall the full-time starters?

The Stroughter-for-Clayton swap I can totally get behind. Stroughter has more production at this point than Clayton and Josh Freeman has spent more time throwing to him and developing a chemistry with him. You’d lose Clayton’s edge blocking, but that’s why they have tight ends. But while it was nice to see Stovall add a couple catches to his stats last week, he’s not in the same class as Bryant. Bryant has been hurt, but even at 80%, I’d take him over Stovall.

As long as I’m taking the time to read Yasinskas’s articles, here is his midseason evaluation of the Bucs: they suck. He actually does the same exact thing everyone else did this week. He let us know that Freeman’s performance later in the season might not match what he did against the Packers.

Don’t get carried away with Freeman’s 1-0 record because there are likely to be a lot of rookie mistakes.

Is there anyone out there who really thought, “This is the way it’s going to be always and forever! Josh Freeman is perfect and pure like a snowflake or a Swedish chick!”? Everyone is so eager to temper my expectations. Gary Shelton even went so far as to invoke Bruce Gradkowski’s debut as a cautionary tale of how early success may not last. Well, thanks a lot Captain Bringdown. One victory. That’s all we’ve been able to enjoy, and only for about ten minutes until the first article came out telling us how it’s all going to fall apart. By the way, have you met the newest Bucs beat writer?

Man, remember when Lindsay Lohan was hot? Maybe you don’t, it’s been a while. But right around when Mean Girls came out in 2004 when she had the awesome red hair and nice rack going before she became a ridiculous coked-out 84-pound whore with dumb tattoos and a vagina that whistles when she walks — that was a good time to ogle Lindsay.

And that’s my post on the Buccaneers’ receivers.

Scott, I’m with you on the starting receivers. Stroughter has earned a shot at being the starter. His production to date and his time with Freeman are strong arguments. As for Clayton, if blocking is his forte, then why not bulk up and play TE? That’s not happening this year but do you think Clayton can play the slot position? I am thinking yes because the slot receiver usually gets a slower defender and that would help Clayton get separation.

Good point mark, Clayton is an elite blocker and viscious hitter.
