Berry Wins Jim Thorpe Award

Tennessee safety Eric Berry won the Jim Thorpe award, given to the best defensive back every year. I always thought it was a little strange for the defensive back award to be named after Thorpe, who I always think of as a running back. The “Night Train Lane” award would make more sense, but whatever. Berry won it and deserved it and it isn’t even close. Draft Berry.

PLEASE draft Berry! Even gayfuck34 has to admit it and he can go jerk off with some sandpaper. Elite talent. He’s like a John Lynch and Ed Reed lovechild. Hopefully Raheem will call Kiffin and get some advice. Let’s fix this secondary problem.

Not a fan of college football, probably never will be. In light of my ignorance, I’ll still ask whether or not picking a Safety over a Defensive Tackle in the first round would be a good idea.
The D line is deep this year, and Tampa needs a lot of D line help. Maybe get a DT in round 1 and then a DE in round 2?
Scott based on need, what do you feel is a smarter decision right now should the Bucs get the number one pick? Suh or Berry, leaving bias at the door?

Having watched Berry play for three years, I think he’s an Ed Reed or Troy Polumalu-quality safety. If I had a chance to go back and pick Ed Reed #1 overall, I think that would be worth it. DT is very deep this year. The Bucs could pick up a very good one with their second round pick.
The Suh Hype Machine is at full power right now. Bucs fans are willing to give up whole drafts for the kid. But from what I’ve seen of him, he’s only really come on in the last two years, and some games he didn’t show up. The Texas game was huge for him, and that’s great. Maybe he plays big in big games. But Berry has been a three-year starter, hasn’t missed a game, and has been consistent game after game after game. The only reason his interceptions were down this year is because of Monte Kiffin’s scheme which had him playing the John Lynch role close to the box. Based on what I know, I’d still pick Berry. Maybe you can check out a Nebraska blog from someone who knows more about Suh than me and they’ll have compelling arguments the other way.
I’ll know more about everyone when draft season kicks in, starting with the Senior Bowl.
