Stroughter on IR, Urrutia Promoted

The subject pretty much says it all. Mario Urrutia was promoted to the active roster after Sammie Stroughter was put on injured reserve with a broken foot. Raheem Morris would like to talk about what Stroughter has done this season.
“You’re talking about a seventh-round draft pick, to come in here and not only make the team – which is a credit to himself – you’re talking about a guy that’s had a significant role all year as far as a third wide receiver in our Zebra package. You’re talking about a guy who can go out there in multiple packages and go out and do things for you. You’re talking about a guy that can punt return, a guy that can kick return. You’re talking about a guy that gave us max effort all year.”
“You’re talking about one of the better football players on our football team.”
Whatchu talkin’ ’bout?
Stroughter has been excellent and will be missed. Josh Freeman has developed a nice chemistry with him. Even though Urrutia was promoted, I’m not convinced he’ll get significant playing time. Brian Clark is a more likely candidate for extended activity, especially considering how Freeman likes to go to Clark when he’s on the field. Maybe Yamon Figurs gets some more looks, too. But Urrutia is a 6-6, 232 receiver and the Bucs already have Maurice Stovall filling the position of Tall Receiver Who Isn’t Very Fast.

WR SPURLOCK SIGNED; WR FIGURS RELEASED
The Buccaneers announced today that they have signed WR Micheal Spurlock and released WR Yamon Figurs.
Spurlock, who played in four games this season for the San Francisco 49ers, played for Tampa Bay in 2007 and Arizona in 2006. He is forever a part of Buccaneers history after returning the first kickoff for a touchdown in team annals with his 90-yard return against Atlanta on December 16, 2007.
Figurs was signed on October 13 and saw action in three games for the Buccaneers in 2009.
