Bill Parcells has been offered the position of Vice President of Football Operations with the Atlanta Falcons. The position would have him technically reporting to Rich McKay, but we all know that would last only as long as it takes McKay to find a new job because there's no way he and Parcells could co-exist in the same state much less on the same staff. He even said so.
In 1996, before the Bucs hired Tony Dungy as a first-time NFL head coach, Tampa Bay owner Malcolm Glazer considered bringing Parcells aboard. McKay, however, told the Glazer family that he would resign if Parcells took the job.
And Parcells has only gotten grumpier and more abrasive while McKay has developed a permanent case of vaginitis. If McKay were to stick around for some reason, it would be nothing but turmoil and drama in Flowery Branch because the two of them are just too different. If McKay left, he would do so with the reputation of having taken a potential Super Bowl team and destroying them from the inside-out like a big, bald termite. I get free entertainment no matter what happens!
I have to admit, I like Parcells. I realize he's a huge bastard and has left the Bucs at the alter twice and he's probably even more of a miserable prick in real life than he is on TV, but I love listening to him. If he joined the Falcons, I'd probably have to move them from the list of teams that should be drowned for their own good to the list of teams that I will root for as long as their success doesn't hurt Tampa Bay. Yes, I make lots of lists.
UPDATE: Here's a much better article about the development. Apparently it is further along than I originally thought. Parcells says, "I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it."

Hey Scott, if you're still looking for a good opportunity to use the word "douche bag", this is it. Swing away my friend, swing away.
Seriously though, do you think that McKay was really talking to Bill Parcels? Or was this just some prank call that McKay fell for -- "Sure I'm Bill Parcels, you can even call me Tuna. I'll be there in the morning to sign a contract. Can I have your credit card number for the flight"?

As I remember it... in '96 Parcells was excited to take the Bucs job as GM and Head Coach, he even told friends Bobby Knight and Ron Wolf, who leaked to the Media... it was a "done deal"
Problem was Hugh Culverhouse was still alive and didn't like spending his money. Parcells flew in to Tampa to seal the deal and learned the sneaky details... if Bill was Head Coach... McKay was GM, if Parcells was GM and Coach, McKay was VP... it didn't matter the senerio Culverhouse was keeping McKay between Parcells and Culverhouses wallet. Culverhouse was a cheap skate and his boy McKay knew it well. Parcells said he aint playing any games, forget it, and walked away. To save face Culverhouse tells the local media "he was jilted at the alter"
In 2002 the Glazers wanted Dungy fired, so McKay fired him and then McKay offered Marvin Lewis the job. The Glazers wanted a big name coach not a rookie, so they killed the offer and McKay looked like a fool. The Glazers wanted Bill Parcells and were willing to give him anything he wanted, this meant McKay was out a job. So "somebody" (McKay?) calls the League office and reports that Bill Parcells is "Tampering" by assembling a coaching staff and contacting his former assistants with the Jets, the League sends both the Buccaneers and Parcells a warning letter and the Glazers are then forced to look else where, they try for Steve Mariucci then end up with John Gruden.
Gruden wins the Superbowl and the Glazers think he's a boy genius. they let Rich McKay go and let Gruden hire his buddy Bruce Allen.
2007 Rich McKay is now in Atlanta and Parcells has a good memory, The Falcons are falling apart, Vick is gone, head coach walks away and the owner is humiliated. They need more then just a Head Coach to come in a build the team back up... McKay needs a Parcells.
Parcells talks to let everyone know he's available, then rejects McKay, it had nothing to do with money, it had to do with teaching someone a lesson... because that's what good Coaches do.
