Jesus H. Christ on a Segway, doesn't anything interesting happen on Fridays anymore?
The Buccaneers are floating the proposal that offseason roster limits should be increased to 90 players. When the NFL Europe exemptions were in effect, they could have that many on the roster and not violate any rules. Now that the spring league is gone (and what ever will we do without it?) there are no more exemptions and the number is a hard 80.
Some cheap-ass owners think 80 is plenty and don't want the limit increased. But sometimes football players get, you know, injured. Not bad enough to put them on injured reserve or release them with an injury settlement, but still enough to keep them out for a few days. It's nice to have the next guy already in place to take the reps and keep camp moving along at a good pace. Besides, this is a maximum we're talking about, not a mandatory minimum. Those owners don't have to sign that many players if they don't want to, but they should let the teams that want as many bodies in camp as possible to do it. The fact that it's the Bucs that are asking for the increase should assuage the notion floated by some crazies across the pond that the Glazers are cheap when it comes to their sporting teams. But of course it won't. Crazies don't listen to reason. That's why they're crazy.
So there you have it. Two posts about rules today. Fun, huh? So, I'll do what I always do and post a cheerleader pic as a crutch. It's getting harder and harder to find Buccaneer cheerleader pics that I like that I haven't used already. I may have to switch to just straight-up hot chicks that have nothing to do with football if I can't find any pretty soon, and... wait, why is that a bad thing, again? Well, I suppose a Buccaneer site should have some kind of tie-in with the team. If you have any Bucs cheerleader pics that you'd like to share, send them over and I'll post them on a slow day. Or a lonely day. Or a day when I'm wearing extra loose shorts. It's all good.

Anybody else hate the words Minimum/Mandatory?But still a really good article as usual. The Glaziers are prally genuinely dishonest people.And... it's Wall Street. Not "the" wallstreet.Cheerleaders or regular hot chicks works for me.Especially bow legged ones.Nice.

Fiz man, I came here to rant today and now you have confused me. But no bother, I shall rant away...
I'm pissed at the low quality of ALL the sports writers today. Retarded monkeys are more creative and better writers than anyone at yahoo or ESPN -- and don't get me started on SI. Gee, I'm sorry to hear that Starbucks spilled your double-mocha-tripple-semen all over you as you sat naked in your car masterbuting into Tom Brady's jock strap Mr. King.
What really pisses me off is this. First, that we, the audience, are viewed as being so stupid that none of us is going to realize that we are being fed the same article with the same information over and over. You know, for people who want to make a living giving their opinions, none of these guys has many opinions do they? And certainly none that aren't conventional?
Secondly, these guys are supposed to be independent reporters and anal-ists, right? But they're not. They are nothing more than the marketing arm for the NFL. They are cheerleaders without the looks. Not one of them would dream of criticising the NFL unless the NFL has already signalled that it is ready for a change and not one of them will go against the conventional wisdom.
What's stunning to me is how much influence Florio has had just yelling from the woods. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the prick. But I am surprised how the NFL jumps every time he picks up a cause. So why haven't any of the "professionals" picked up on these issues before Florio does?
I'm no journalist, but don't they teach "journalists" to remain independent?
In fact, the only place I find independence these days is at blogs like this. Keep up the good work Scott and don't take any shit from the uniformed ranks.
P.S. Why the fuck do people think we need to draft a linebacker? That is probably the one position we don't need.

I came across a website this morning that has made predictions for the entire draft. I give them a lot of points for effort. However, they had the bucs taking TWO linebackers -- one was even in the first round!! Am I missing something? Did our linebacking corp go on a picknick and get eaten by bears?
One of the bigger name sites is now prediting that we will take a running back in the first round because of concerns about Cadillac Williams. While I don't doubt we will add a running back or two or three this offseason, I can't see us taking one in the first round unless McFadden falls to us.

The Bucs do not need to draft a linebacker or a safety. And there are good running backs to be had in the third and fourth rounds. Tashard Choice comes to mind right away. I'm pretty sure the Bucs will go with either a wide receiver or a cornerback in the first round.
And I will venture to say that Darren McFadden will not have the same kind of rookie season that Adrian Peterson had. Peterson is a special player. McFadden is good, but I just don't see him being all that great in the long run.

Matt man, let me break it down for you. The words minimum/mandatory usally pertain to a criminal charge or jail sentence. The fact the Glaziers are so reclusive makes me think they are shaddy.I would like an ownership with a little more involvement. The crazies across the pond incorrectly labeled one of our countries economical landmarks. And you get no help with the last statement in my previous comment.Got that.I'm hearing what your sayin',but I can't figure out how it goes with the article Scott wrote. So there you are.

I agree 100%. I think we have one of the better linebacking and safety corps in the league right now. There is simply no need to add another LB or safety in this draft.
I also agree on McFadden. He's fast, strong and a good runner. But he's not a "special" runner like everyone says.
I think we are likely to go wide receiver in the first round, but not cornerback -- unless Mike Jenkins is available. Otherwise, and this may be the crack pipe talking but...., I could honestly see the Bucs take a QB in the first round and then grab a WR or two later along with a CB. Just sayin's all.

Word.I'm all about taking a QB in the first round, with one exception.Andre Woodson in the second round.I don't care what they say about him. He's gonna make it.On the other hand. You gotta be pleased with the amount of depth at all positions except for WR,DT,CB,QB.If we address these needs, in any order(except for QB), in the first 4 rounds we'll be lookin' pretty damn good. Scott, can you see the Bucs getting a top five DT in round 2?I'm guessing thats whats going to determine the first pick;Is the caliber of player we can get in the second round. And what do you think are our posistions of need from greatest to least.Regardless of this years Draft Class.Peace.

The more I look at this draft, the more convinced I am that the Bucs can use their first round on anything they want because they can get good WRs, CBs and DTs in later rounds.
