Arron Sears’s Concussions May be Career Threatening

Before reading the rest of this entry, note above that this is the first-ever post to this website NOT by Scott. He’s busy doing whatever the hell it is he said he’s doing in his last post (I don’t pay much attention to details; probably why I’m still single), so please don’t blame him if I screw up.
Anyway, I gave him a tip about a breaking news story, and he asked me if I could write it up. It basically went like this:
Scott: Will you stick to the facts, keep the language clean, and not try to be funny?
Me: No.
Scott: You’re hired.
The breaking story is unfortunately not a good one for Bucs followers. Apparently starting left guard Arron Sears’ absence from OTAs is due to a neurological issue from a concussion, and that it is potentially career-threatening.
A source tells Pewter Report that Sears has not been medically cleared to practice during the OTAs and that Sears has been dealing with the effects of a concussion. Neurological tests have not come back positively and there is a possible chance that his career could be in jeopardy unless his condition improves. Pewter Report has confirmed that Sears does not have a physical injury that can be rehabilitated with the training staff and that he has not been at the team’s facility for weeks.
Obviously, the first concern is for Sears’ health. Wait, fuck that. The first concern is the Bucs may be about to lose one of the best young guards in the game. Jeremy Zuttah would almost certainly be his replacement, with Sean Mahan becoming the swing guy backing up the center and both guard positions. Behind Mahan? Hell, I don’t know, maybe my ex-girlfriend, if she’s lost a few pounds.
Oh, and also I hope everything is okay with Sears and he can live a normal life and all that.

Joe, great blog entry! I can’t believe Scott had to leave the comfort of Mom’s basement to… WORK.
That’s bad news about Sears. They don’t say exactly what symptoms he’s experiencing. He may not be clearing to play because his concussion tests haven’t returned to baseline (pre-concussion) levels.

Man, what really sucks is if he’s not medically cleared then this would have been something the coaching staff knows about which makes comments like “All I can do is worry about the guys who are here. The ones who are here will have a shot at starting this season.” kind of dickish in hindsight.

@Louie: I don’t know what the hell he’s doing; hopefully he is more gainfully employed than I am. I certainly appreciate him letting me post here.
@wordy: Agreed, but as the article says, the Bucs are being very tight-lipped about the whole situation, which means coaches will immediately go into coachspeak when asked about a missing player.

I want Scott back! jk haha, nice job Joe.

And then Leftwhich said, “In the past, I’ve been rehabbing, almost two and a half years, just straight rehabbing. It takes time to get back to your old self where you’re moving and everything’s fine.”
Uh… I’m just thinking that if you’ve been rehabbing for nearly three years, maybe ‘injured’ *IS* your ‘old self’. Its like your default mode and being healthy is the anomaly.

@Buc101: Thanks, man.
@Wordy: Maybe he can play left guard.

Morris didn’t shed any light on Sears today. It’s sounds like he’s got some mental/emotional issues going on. Maybe concussion related, but it could be they are using that to cover for whatever is going on.

Always sad to see a promising career possibly ended due to injury, but better safe to check him and not let him back in than have him walking around like Muhammad Ali later in life…
