Bucs Sign Mike Mickens

Why does football have to be so violent? Can't we all just be ballerinas?
You were just thinking that the Bucs needed more rookies, right? Well, Christmas came early for you. The Bucs just signed ex-Cinicinnati Bearcat Mike Mickens from the Cowboys’ practice squad.

The 6-foot, 189-pound Mickens was considered a first-round talent until a torn meniscus in his knee forced him to miss the final three games for the Bearcats last season.

I’m sure Rick Stroud is just spitting back what he read about that first-round talent thing, but lots of outlets say that lots of players have first-round talent when they’re sophomores and juniors. He was never a legitimate consideration for the first round, though. But, still, there’s some talent there so why not.

The Bucs haven’t announced the signing yet, so we don’t know who they cut to make room for him. My money is on Marcus McCauley. What, you didn’t know McCauley was on the roster? Exactly.

You know you’ve hit rock bottom when you’re raiding other team’s practice squads.

I think, at one point, I was considered a first-round talent.

Don’t laugh. How many Pop Warner back-up running backs do you know that averaged seven yards a carry?

On a different note of inane thrashing about…Andrus paid the price for missing that single FG attempt he was given over the last 3 games.

The Buccaneers announced today that they have signed K Connor Barth. In addition, the team released K Shane Andrus.

Barth joins the Buccaneers after being released by the Miami Dolphins on August 29. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008. He played in 10 games for the Chiefs in 2008, converting 10-of-12 field goals and all 24 PATs before being released on July 28, 2009.

Andrus played in three games for the Buccaneers this season and was 0-1 on field goal attempts while converting 6-of-6 PATs.

Barth shouldn’t even have to stretch before games. It’s not like we’ll be in field goal range anytime soon.

I think I’m beginning to see a flaw in the “I’ll tolerate you until I can replace you.” philosophy. It doesn’t apparently account for the need to replace you with someone BETTER.

Menkins is listed on a Cowboys blog as being 5′ 11.5″ and 184 lbs with 4.53 speed. Some other sites claim he has “great” cover skills and plays stronger than his size. The 4.53 speed is a concern. That’s linebacker speed.
